American patriotism in the spotlight in the Ryder Cup crowd

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, Wisconsin (WBAY) – If the European team had scored a victory it would have been the biggest comeback in Ryder Cup history, but on Sunday the stars of the show all wore red, white and blue – both on the course and in the stands.

Colorful USA-themed outfits filled the crowd, making it feel like an over the top July 4th barbecue among the hills at one of the nation’s most renowned golf courses.

The American team made short work of their victory, thanks to massive advances in the first two days of competition, to the delight of the public.

Dressed in thoughtful American-inspired attire, fans showed how proud they are to host the Ryder Cup in the state of Wisconsin, some of which are at home.

“Because of COVID, we have been very devastated. Wisconsin is a huge golfing state, so everyone is very excited. Most of my Madison friends have made their way here. Everyone from Wisconsin is here, ”said Kiki Vandenbrook, originally from Madison and visiting the area.

In addition, attending the event showed for some how much of a priority golf is in their lives.

“The backstory is that we were roommates at college 30 years ago,” said Pete Campbell, who is from Virginia Beach. “He is the godfather of my son and my daughter. We’ve been together ever since. Golf and our families are the most important things in our lives.

While it was easy for Wisconsin golfers to come and enjoy the Whistling Straits course, some American fans have said they are already considering buying tickets to Rome for the 2023 Ryder Cup when Europe hosts – especially after seeing the energy at this year’s event. .
