Brooklyn Barbeque launches tonight on Pineapple Walk!

Besides fireworks, what is synonymous with summer and the 4th of July? BBQ! Tonight, Chef Dimitri Likourentzos and General Manager of Park Plaza Diner is excited to host a “soft launch” of Brooklyn Barbeque.

“We will have a limited menu starting at 5:00 p.m. until closing, 10:00 p.m. Full bar available. [served] at the Park Plaza.

Park Plaza Diner in Brooklyn Heights is a beloved family business that has anchored Pineapple Walk retail for the better part of four decades. But what is less known is that chef Dimitri graduated in 1996 from the renowned Culinary Institute of America. And, in addition to taking over the business from his brother Nick, he is constantly working on his craft.

Between 2015 and 2018, Dimitri traveled to Georgia, Texas, Florida, and Tennessee, among other places, seeking knowledge from the best well masters he could find. With the installation of a smokehouse in the diner’s kitchen in 2019, Dimitri added the BBQ to the diner menu. And damn it was good! His original plan was to open Brooklyn BBQ in 2020. But, Covid put the kibosh on his dream. Dimitri was happy to report that the restaurant has recovered from pandemic related losses and is now full steam ahead!

“I worked there to finally have this beautiful day where I can finally have a real BBQ restaurant in this place.”

Brooklyn BBQ is co-located with Park Plaza Diner on Pineapple Walk. The new restaurant covered outdoor dining and took over what was the restaurant’s private back room. Dimitri designed and built most of the space himself, including the hand-pouring of the bar’s concrete countertops. Brooklyn BBQ will operate as a completely separate entity from Park Plaza. As such, the restaurant will no longer serve barbecue but will still offer many traditional and delicious dishes.
