Bryan VFW Post 4692 Hosts BBQ Fundraiser for ‘Our Greatest Generation’ Trip

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -Bryan VFW Post 4692 hosted a BBQ fundraiser to raise money for more than a dozen World War II veterans to take a special trip to New Orleans.

All funds from the BBQ are earmarked for a trip to the WWII Museum in New Orleans.

Fifteen World War II veterans from Texas, ages 93 to 103, will take an all-expenses-paid trip from Houston in a chartered bus. This includes two nights of accommodation, meals, WWII museum expenses and, among other things, fees.

BBQ plates included chicken leg, sausage, pinto beans, potato salad or coleslaw and peach cobbler.

Hector R. Giron, Post Commander, said he is extremely grateful for the support of our community in giving back to veterans.

“It’s really special to show some of these WWII veterans something they’ve never seen before,” Giron said.

Giron said his favorite part of helping these World War II veterans is seeing the smiles it brings knowing they’re going to relive so much history.

“We celebrate and bring them a sense of joy. We want them to know that they are still remembered,” said Giron. “They impacted our lives, so we want to honor what they did for us.”
