Douglas County Republican Heritage Day Barbecue | New

Today was the annual Douglas County Republican Heritage Day BBQ. The event took place at Corley Ranch in Gardnerville.

Many Republican candidates from Nevada who ran for office this year were there to speak to voters.

As well as a massive barbecue food buffet, they also held a silent, live auction to help raise funds for their campaign season.

With this event being one of two major Republican Party fundraisers they host each year, Douglas County Republican Central Committee Communications Director Shawn Meehan said, “We’re here to celebrate what it means to be a Nevadan, living in one of the freest states and the most free countries in the world People can come meet candidates, raise funds and share our story of what it means to be a Republican.

There were two sets of speakers, Mark Amodei, Sam Brown, Adam Laxalt, Michael McDonald, Sigal Chattah, Robin Titus, Ken Gray and speakers from the Douglas County School District. Joe Lobardo was also going to speak today but was unable to do so due to scheduling conflicts.

They talked about issues such as abortion rights, education, law enforcement funding and overall how elections are going for them and how they want people to get involved. .

Meehan explains “We come together and share our beliefs, learn, laugh and have fun, come home and rest and go back to work to get our candidates elected.” He adds “It’s the year where I see all kinds of new faces and I think it’s the energy, people don’t like the direction of the country at the moment and they want to get involved. .” And ultimately, they want good voter turnout. He says “We have to go out, pick up the shovels, do the work and educate the American people so they can make a free choice for themselves.”

The Carson City Democratic Party and Governor Sisolak are also hosting an event on September 18, 2022 at 6 p.m. in Carson City.
