Chelsea have joined the race to sign Leeds winger Raphinha in 2022, according to journalist Gianluigi Longari.
Raphinha has been the most notable performer of a poor Leeds side this season, as they have only had three wins in 17 games so far, leaving them struggling with relegation.
The Brazilian has scored eight goals and recorded an assist in 16 appearances so far in the Premier League and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich in January.
He has also previously been linked with a move to Liverpool’s side of Jurgen Klopp, but now it looks like Chelsea are interested as well.
According to LongariThomas Tuchel’s side are interested in signing the 25-year-old and are considering the summer to strike a deal rather than January.
It now seems inevitable that Raphinha will leave Leeds before the start of next season, but it is imperative that they keep him at least for the rest of this season.
He is the shining light of a shocking squad right now and even the most diehard Leeds United fan would find it hard to fault him for stepping away from the club to become a great European giant.
He has a ‘phenomenal‘ability to play at the highest level and with the World Cup coming to Qatar in 2022, he knows he has to continue playing at a high level to keep his place in their squad for the tournament.
If Marcelo Bielsa can keep it beyond the winter window, then not only will they likely have a chance to increase its price, but they will also have a much better chance of survival and that is the most important thing for the club right now.
In other Leeds news, the FIFA rule change gives Marcelo Bielsa another headache ahead of Burnley’s game.
