Food & Wine picks the best things to eat in Kansas and Missouri

Food & Wine drew inspiration from its editors’ extensive travels and passion for food to come up with a new list of “The One Thing You Must Eat in Every State.”

For Missouri, the publication selected burnt ends from Kansas City spots like Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque: “There’s still no such thing as your first burnt ends sandwich, an unholy mess of bark, meat and of sauce. For many Americans raised in sanitized barbecue restaurant chains, Bryant’s is a great reminder of what exactly barbecue is.

He also mentions Gates Bar-BQ “mainly for the ribs” and LC’s Bar-BQ on the “shaggy fringe of town”.

For Kansas, he recommends fried chicken dinners. He gives shoutouts to two vintage restaurants in Pittsburg, Kansas – Chicken Annie’s Original and Chicken Mary’s, “serving big plates of sprinkled and crusted chicken, served with classic sides like German potato salad and cut green beans “.
