Great day out for MidCoast car enthusiasts

MidCoast Council invites residents to join automotive author Joel Wakely at Harrington Library on Wednesday, September 21, followed by a Car Club exhibit and BBQ lunch.

Starting at 10am in the library, Joel will be discussing his latest book, ‘Racing Humpy Holdens’. Then everyone is invited to a Car Club show and a Harrington Lions Club sausage sizzle starting at 11am.

Joel Wakely has been surrounded by cars most of his life; working on it and owning several very rare models.

He will introduce you to 48-215, known as “Humpy”. You will learn how this modest car, designed for a particular time and place, exceeded the limits of its expectations.

Joel recounts how the Humpy became a much-loved road car, a competitive race car and ultimately an important Holden model that helped define Australian motoring culture and history.

Its story takes the reader on a journey with a simple car that went beyond its limits to define an automotive era. It follows a group of buddies who have built a race car on a shoestring budget. Through hard work and skill, they have reached the pinnacle of their sport.

The Author and Car Show is a free event, hosted by MidCoast Libraries.
