Danny Ward’s name has been mentioned, as has Danny McGuire, while Ryan Carr and James Webster have also been touted as men for the Leeds Rhinos job on a permanent basis.
While the The telegraph of the day Down Under believe the favorite is former Featherstone Rovers head coach Ryan Carr, the bookmakers tell a different story.
Tony Smith is now the early favorite at 5/2 with Danny Ward just behind at 7/2.
And, during Hull KR’s post-match press conference following their Challenge Cup win over Leigh Centurions, Smith addressed those rumors of a possible move to Leeds.
“I coach here and I focus on training here,” he told the Hull Daily Mail after the game.
“My job is to prepare my team and get them ready for every game – that’s what I do.
“I don’t owe anyone anything and I don’t have to please my supporters by telling them what I’m doing next year right now.
“I’m pretty comfortable not knowing what my future is. I always said it.
“Whatever happens in the future will work itself out. What happens at another club has nothing to do with us.
“I haven’t discussed my future with anyone and I won’t discuss it publicly until I discuss it privately – and that’s usually with my boss at home!”
