Despite losing his job, Bielsa achieved legendary status at Elland Road thanks to his ability to lead the club out of the Championship and establish it in the Premier League with his aggressive, attacking style of football and eccentric way out of the park. .

Examples of such include the ‘spygate’ saga in which he sent a member of his team to watch Frank Lampard’s Derby County train ahead of their Championship game.

He then called a marathon press conference where he explained his intentions and revealed all the information he had learned about the Rams in a moment that will go down in English football history.

With no clear chance of saying goodbye to Bielsa, Leeds fans took matters into their own hands by posting an announcement in Argentinian newspaper La Capitalwith the slogan “Thank you, Marcelo”.

As part of the tribute, supporters wrote a moving message to the 66-year-old, thanking him for ‘restoring their pride’ in the football club.

The statement read: “We were in sunny August 2018, mesmerized by the football we didn’t know was possible, and we felt something again.

“You reminded us that football can be beautiful and a team can be greater than the sum of its parts. Side before self.

“And you gave us so much more than football. You got us through a pandemic and brought us together when we were all apart. You showed us that integrity and decency matter, in good times and in bad. times.

“You have embraced our fears and turned our despair into hope and our footballers into heroes. You have made us all better.

“You restored our pride, gave us joy and created precious memories that will last a lifetime. And it was beautiful, Marcelo. And it will always be so beautiful. Thank you.”

The full-page ad was also shared by Bielsa’s boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys on their social media account, while also touching a deal with Gary Lineker.

The Match Of The Day host replied to the message with a message saying, “Bien hecho”, which translates to “well done”.

Lineker was clearly a fan of the Argentine boss after he paid tribute after his sacking saying: “He brought a lot to our game and did so much for Leeds United. He entertained us with his sword football. Good luck to him.
