June marks the start of hurricane season – Parkland Talk
By Mayor Michael Udine
June marks the start of hurricane season and signals that we need to be prepared.
What does that mean? Have a plan! Create a checklist, stock up on non-perishables such as canned goods and water, and set up the essentials, including pet supplies. Have a plan to evacuate if necessary. We prefer that you stay with a relative or friend, but know where your refuge is and communicate your plan to family members. Please visit broward.org/hurricane and visit your city’s website for important information to prepare for hurricane season.
Summer vacation is here and Broward is ready! Whether you plan to stay or get away, we can meet all of your needs. Did you know that Port Everglades has added cruises with Disney and Ritz Carlton Cruise Lines?
Consider the cooler temperatures up north and see which flights from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will get you there! Take the time to barbecue with family and friends right here at home. I look forward to summer and hope you enjoy a relaxing getaway or a cannonball (or two) in the pool this season.
Summer means plenty of programming opportunities at Broward County libraries and parks! Whether you need to find that great book to kick back on the summer reading list, explore nature on one of the many nature trails, or find your dream pitch for an afternoon of baseball , you can do it all in Broward. Check out calendars of special summer events for the whole family at broward.org. We look forward to seeing you!
Congratulations to the Class of 2022. Whether you are graduating from high school or college, savor this accomplishment, but know that this is only the beginning of the journey.
A degree or diploma showcases your commitment to hard work in the pursuit of learning. As you enter the professional world, always strive to keep learning and making a difference to our community and our country. Congratulations to the Class of 2022! You did it!
Finally, I wish all dads a happy Father’s Day. Children need great role models in their lives; big siblings, teachers, and anyone who chooses to take on this role in a child’s development deserves applause. So relax dads – grab a cold drink, BBQ and families don’t forget to hug the cook. You deserve a nice day!
