Leeds’ Phillips reacts to Aston Villa player’s actions during England training
It looks like Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings got the better of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips in England training on Saturday.
Ahead of the Three Lions face Romania in an international friendly today, Villa’s imposing center-back posted a clip to his Instagram story where he nutted the Leeds star during a Rondo shoot.
Added with the clip, Mings simply added the caption “sorry brother,” as he laughed and hugged his national teammate after muscle-building him.
Phillips responded to the Villa man’s actions on his own Instagram story by simply saying “I don’t believe it”.
Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if both players feature for England today in what is the last game before Euro 2020 kicks off for Gareth Southgate’s men.
Mings started at center, alongside Conor Coady, as England beat Austria 1-0 in a friendly on Wednesday – Phillips was an unused substitute.
But it wouldn’t be a surprise if defensive rock Leeds are given a start today, as Southgate turns their 26-man squad ahead of this opener against Croatia.
It remains to be seen whether either player will be in this starting XI next week.
But on paper, it looks like Declan Rice is ahead of the ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’, while Southgate can choose between Mings or Coady to start that Euro 2020 opener as Harry Maguire is still recovering from a injury.
Regardless, this is the first tournament Mings and Phillips will be in, and given injury concerns for Maguire and Jordan Henderson, they both could feature a lot more than fans realize.
