Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow’s father Geoff provides heartbreaking latest government
Last weekend a charity football match was held in Crofton to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease Research.
Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow and his dad Geoff attended the match between Kews Charity FC and celebrity side Once Upon a Smile with the likes of Emmerdale’s Danny Miller hoping to raise as much money as possible for the Motor Neurone Disease Research Center in Leeds.
However, the problem with fundraising has been the lack of help from the government and their refusal to release the £50million they pledged for the cause.
As such, Geoff Burrow has taken to social media to again draw attention to this fact after such a great weekend day.
Geoff Burrow tweeted: “Thank you Darren and everyone who attended the charity football game in Crofton today. So many kind people supporting charities. We just need the government to be nice and keep their funding promises of the Department of National Defence.

It’s a heartbreaking update Geoff Burrow had to make to keep the government committed to an incredible cause.
The decision to withhold the funds was a major kick for Burrow and his supporters, including former Leeds Rhinos teammate Kevin Sinfield.
Sinfield has run seven marathons in seven days, raising £3million for MND charities, going the extra mile for his former teammate since his diagnosis in late 2019 and the two have given hope to so many with the platform they created.
The former Rhinos captain then ran 100 miles in 24 hours, which is equivalent to four consecutive marathons without sleeping. He ran from the Welford Road stadium of his new club Leicester Tigers to the Emerald Headingley stadium in Leeds.
But, all of these efforts fell on deaf ears in Downing Street, much to the chagrin of Rob and his family, as well as his powerful support.
Geoff previously tweeted: “Absolutely disgusted that NO MONEY has been received on the £50million over 5 years for MND!!! The Government and Health Minister should hang their heads in shame. The Was “promise” just a cruel sick lie? Give us the money please.

Despite Geoff’s plea, nothing has been done yet and the Burrow family and the MND community are STILL waiting months later. Hopefully they finally get what they deserve.
