Leeds: Romano drops Lang update
Fabrizio Romano has posted an update on Leeds United transfer target Noa Lang.
What is the speech?
Speaking in a video posted to his Youtube channel, the Italian journalist has confirmed that Victor Orta and his Leeds United transfer side are interested in a deal for the Club Brugge KV striker this summer – after being related with the 23-year-old for the better part of two years – however, no move ultimately materialized for the Netherlands international.
The transfer insider went on to say that this was a missed opportunity for Los Blancos, as well as a host of other clubs who hadn’t submitted an official offer for the winger, although the reporter went on to claim Lang was going to still be available in future transfer windows – potentially opening the door to a move to Leeds further down the line.
Speaking about the striker’s situation, Romano said: “Noa Lang, a player I really like, I think he’s really underrated. It’s true that Brugge have already sold Charles De Ketelaere to the AC Milan, but Noa Lang was available on the market, he will be available in future transfer windows, so a really big and interesting opportunity.
“He was on the Leeds roster, for example, and other European clubs were also following him, especially in Italy. But now Noa Lang is still available on the market, so a missed opportunity.
Orta must avenge the missed opportunity
Considering what an exciting talent Lang has undoubtedly proven to be over the past few years, should the Dutchman indeed be available for as little as €25 million (£22m) once again in the January transfer window – as Romano suggests – Orta simply needs to avenge his missed opportunity by launching a move for the 23-year-old when the winter market rolls around.
Indeed, after having made a loan from Ajax to Bruges in the summer of 2020, the £17.1 million talent had a stellar debut campaign during his 29 Jupiler Pro League appearances in 2020/21, scoring 16 goals, registering seven assists and creating 11 great chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 2.9 shots, making 1.7 key passes and completing 1.4 dribbles per game.
These returns saw the versatile the winger – who can operate from any position in the front three and in central and attacking midfield – averaged quite an extraordinary Match Rating on SofaScore 7.37not only classifying it as his club third best interpreter but also as joint eighth best player in the elite of Belgian football as a whole that season.
Then, after sealing a permanent £5.4 million move to the Jan Breydel Stadium in the summer of 2021, Lang once again shone on his 37 Jupiler Pro League last season, registering seven goals, providing 12 assists and creating 19 great chances for his teammates, in addition to taking an average of 2.0 shots, making 1.9 key passes and making 1.7 dribbles per game.
These measures saw the £20,000 per week sensation once again mean an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating from 7.20classifying it as the joint of Bruges fifth best interpreter of the division, as well as the joint 20th best league player as a whole last time.
Moreover, the five caps international also impressed Brugge on the European stage, scoring a goal and registering two assists 12 Champions League appearances – despite playing for a club not generally regarded as one of the greatest teams in European football.
As such, with Lang clearly a versatile, consistent, creative and deadly striker, the exact reason why Orta hasn’t sanctioned a move for the Dutchman this summer is rather baffling – especially after missing on the signing of Charles De Ketelaere at AC Milan.
However, with Romano suggesting the 23-year-old could well be available in January, Orta won’t have to wait long before he can put that mistake right – with a move for the Brugge star looking like an absolute must for Los Blancos this winter .
