Leeds United have confirmed a host of senior players will play for the Under-21s on Friday when they take on Southampton at Elland Road.
In a post on their official Twitter account On Tuesday, September 13, Los Blancos announced that Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling and Junior Firpo will continue their recovery from injury by taking on the Saints’ youngsters.
Darko Gyabi and Sonny Perkins, who both joined in the summer with a view to mixing up between senior and reserve squads, are also expected to be involved.
As long as they come out of this game unscathed, that’s great news for Leeds.
We’re begging for the return of 31-year-old Cooper.
The Leeds captain is yet to feature in the Premier League this season and Diego Llorente’s form is a major concern among fans with the Spaniard struggling.
If Cooper passes this game without another setback, he simply has to replace Llorente in Jesse Marsch’s starting line-up for the next first-team game.
Leeds next game on October 2 against Aston Villa and Cooper should be fit and ready to play in this game.
He absolutely has to be Robin Koch’s partner at the back.
As for Firpo, 26, Pascal Struijk should be our first-choice left-back until Stuart Dallas returns as he has been brilliant this season.
Ayling, 31, is struggling as he will be out of contract next summer and a new right-back has been signed. However, Rasmus Kristensen’s form hasn’t been the best.
Bamford, 28, obviously starts.
In other Leeds United news, Andrea Radrizzani is obsessed with signing this player in January.
