Leeds United sign a really powerful deal with W Denis

We are delighted to welcome a football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as an exclusive columnist. Each week he will give his views on the main talking points at Leeds United...

Dan Plumley has insisted Leeds United have signed a “really powerful” deal for the fan base with W Denis becoming the latest partner.

The agreement with W Denis was confirmed this month, the local insurance broker taking its first steps into football with its brand on Elland Road billboards.

Finance expert Plumley has admitted that these deals are not about money and are unlikely to be worth millions to Los Blancos as they keep parts of the club for the local community.

“I think it will be a much lower value,” he exclusively said WORD Leeds News.

“It’s a bigger picture, you look at the gold level packages, that’s where the big money comes in, that’s an example of the benefits of keeping some business partners local, and being part of that community and a little more about who Leeds really appeal on a non-financial basis, it’s not about the money.

“It gives you a platform to say you’re engaging with local vendors, it keeps it in the community and gives something back and it’s really powerful with the fan base.

“It’s unlikely to be in the millions.”

Leeds have staggered their sponsorship deals this season and it’s really starting to pay off.

The likes of Hisense and Boost have paid top dollar for bigger deals in the Gold tier, with local partners likely paying far less to have their branding around Elland Road.

The installation of the electric billboards took the stage to the next level and also opened the door to unlimited partnerships compared to the limited number introduced by the old regime.

Fans will love this one because it keeps that homegrown feel, but there’s nothing wrong with those big budget moves too, with a healthy comparison between the two – long may it go on.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now want to sign the striker with a rival set to kick off a major £30m+ transfer battle.
