Chelsea are reportedly keeping midfielder Ross Barkley in the January transfer window despite his ties to Leeds United.
According to The daily mail, Leeds are looking for another midfielder on loan despite contract negotiations with Adam Forshaw.
However, Barkley is unlikely to cross the Elland Road gate this month as he appears set to stay in West London.
There were doubts from the start as to whether Barkley would be a good fit in this Leeds system.
The England international is a shadow of his old self and has set the Premier League on fire with his performances at Everton.
At the time, he appeared to be England’s next big star, but his impact on games has weakened over the years.
He is currently 28 and has been ravaged by several injuries in recent seasons.
His pace of work is also not exemplary – something Marcelo Bielsa wouldn’t be too enthusiastic about.
Stylistically, Barkley seems unsuited to the Argentinian system at the club, so signing him would have made very little sense.
Bielsa likes hard-working players who are able to play in a plethora of positions and are able to shut down opposition for 90 minutes.
Barkley clearly doesn’t tick any of those boxes and it’s a good thing Chelsea are left as he would add very little value to the Leeds side.
