Leeds United FC improves customer experience and celebrates fifteen years of seamless networking with Allied Telesis and NETprotocol

SWINDON, England, September 8, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Leeds United Football Club (LUFC) is improving the customer experience for fans and visitors when using turnstiles at its Elland Road stadium in Leeds as part of a sound upgrade Allied Telesis high-capacity resilient network core. The smooth operation of the turnstiles, as well as all other aspects of the club’s business, depend on reliable connectivity through a high-capacity Allied Telesis network which has operated stably without downtime for a decade and a half. Designed, installed, maintained and supported by NETprotocol, a platinum-level Allied Telesis partner, the network covers the club’s Elland Road stadium in Leeds and his training grounds 20 kilometers away at Thorp Arch, Wetherby.

Leeds United FC’s Elland Road stadium has a seating capacity of 38,000 and is england 14th largest football pitch. From a network perspective, LUFC is a challenge as it needed seamless 24-hour network operations for all of its internal activities within the stadium grounds, including back-office administration, call centre, reception and executive suites, ticket office, merchandise shop, press gallery, television. studio and a CCTV security system that operates several hundred surveillance cameras throughout the stadium complex.

With nearly 200 cameras around the stadium, CCTV is a key part of the infrastructure, designed to protect the stadium’s more than 40,000 fans and workers on matchdays. As a failure of the CCTV system would trigger a mismatch, NETprotocol installed a dedicated network layer using an Allied Telesis switch that supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) for each camera on campus. , thus guaranteeing the continuous operation of the security system.

Leeds United’s network continues to be essential as more modern systems are integrated and more services are digitised. The team’s promotion to the Premier League has resulted in numerous service and networking upgrades to meet matchday demands for press, traveling teams, security and more.

“We recently increased the bandwidth of the network by putting more fiber into the network to support additional communication lines, such as for streaming games and interviews on LUFC-TV,” explains Broadley. “We’ve replaced network cores with even higher capacity connections, upgraded to the latest AlliedWare Plus operating system, and implemented a new management layer. With a single-panel management system on the whole network, we can see everything in much more detail.”

The LUFC network is based on two high-capacity, multi-routed fiber connections that form the core of the resilient network. A 20 gigabyte connection is in the main data center in the east stand and a 20 gigabyte connection is in the ticket office in the west stand. The variously routed fibers running east to west and west to east around the stadium create a completely flawless 40 gigabyte ring. Connected to these two cores are several on-board cabinets that manage the rest of the structure. A Vista Manager EX Network Management Platform and Allied Telesis’ Autonomous Management Framework (AMF), which runs from a single screen to enable centralized viewing of network details, status, event information and automates common tasks such as firmware updates, backups and contactless provisioning.
