Paul Merson slams Diego Llorente ‘weak’, Leeds United man ‘as sweet as me’

Paul Merson has blasted Leeds United defender Diego Llorente for his role in Brighton’s first goal at Elland Road on Sunday May 15.

Danny Welbeck put the south coast club ahead in the 21st minute after beating 28-year-old Llorente.

Merson was less than impressed with the Spain international, as he also criticized Rodrigo for losing the ball in the attack in front of Brighton’s goal.

“Rodrigo gets the ball back, he just has to put Gelhardt on and he takes his time and has fun,” Stelling said of Sky Sports News Sunday (May 15, 1:20 p.m.).

“He gets the ball stolen and then they break the right side.

“Welbeck is having a good race, he is in the game and is having a race with Llorente.

“Llorente is too weak [Welbeck] pushes him out of the way, the shoulder, back to his right then just knocks him into the keeper.

“Great finish but Llorente, wow, he’s as sweet as me.”

What happened to Llorente?

He’s been an absolute joke this season.

Last season he struggled with injuries but still managed to play superbly every time he was on the pitch and we looked like a good defensive unit when he was alongside Liam Cooper.

However, this season he has been fit and available for the most part but he has really struggled and looks like a player who has never played top football in his career.

Llorente’s form is disconcerting but he’s not alone.

It’s just that we see him as this player who played for Spain and Real Madrid, played in Europe and cost the club a lot of money.

It shouldn’t be that bad.

But Llorente was sad and we wouldn’t mind if he was sent back to Spain this summer in fairness as his defense for Brighton’s opening goal was an absolute joke.

We’re going down, aren’t we?
