Uruguay striker Agustin Alvarez is a man on the move with the striker set to join Italian side Sassuolo.
The 21-year-old is set to join the Serie A outfit in a deal worth around €12million from Penarol, with the Uruguayan striker traveling to Italy to complete his transfer on Thursday.
But reports in Italy suggested Alvarez had other options in the summer transfer window, with Southampton among the clubs named as being interested in signing him. Leeds United have also been linked, with Alvarez catching the eye of several European clubs after 13 goals in 26 league appearances. German side Bayer Leverkusen and Sassuolo’s Serie A rivals Fiorentina have also been named as possible suitors.

However, Alvarez has now decided to explain his decision to move to Italy, with the 21-year-old suggesting Serie A is the right place for him.
“It’s a great team for me, ideal to grow and progress. I chose Sassuolo because I like the club and I think it’s the right place for me,” said the young striker. Sky Sport Italy. “I want to prepare myself and give everything to this team.”
Alvarez has scored 34 goals in 89 appearances for Penarol, making his senior debut for Uruguay in September 2021. It is reported that he will sign a long-term contract with Sassuolo.
