Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters in line for England debut ahead of Leeds United clash

Here are the latest Premier League titles for Friday March 25.

Kyle Walker-Peters in the running for his England debut

Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters is set to make his debut for England ahead of the Saints’ clash with Leeds United next weekend. Walker-Peters, alongside Crystal Palace duo Marc Guehi and Tyrick Mitchell, are among the unselected members of the Three Lions squad ahead of friendlies with Switzerland on Saturday and Ivory Coast on Tuesday.

“We’re going to make our debut this week for sure, whether it’s tomorrow or Tuesday,” England boss Gareth Southgate told a press conference ahead of the match against Switzerland.

“Big times for these players. We will always want to put them with experienced players as well so that we have a good balance and that gives them the best chance to succeed.”

Arsenal’s relief by Xhaka

Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka is delighted not to face two of his in-form Arsenal team-mates at Wembley on Saturday night. England host the Swiss in a friendly with both sides now preparing for the World Cup later this year.

Xhaka has been part of an Arsenal side that have had a fine second half of the season so far, with the Gunners now favorites to finish in the top four in the Premier League. The fact that four Arsenal players were called up to Gareth Southgate’s initial 25-man squad for the Switzerland and Ivory Coast friendlies is a testament to their recent form.

However, a hip injury forced goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale out and Bukayo Saka followed suit after testing positive for coronavirus on Thursday. Ben White and Emile Smith Rowe could still feature for the hosts as Xhaka has acknowledged that the pair’s absence from Arsenal could help the Swiss’ chances.

“Two of them won’t be playing tomorrow so it’s good because we know their quality,” he said of Arsenal’s England contingent. “Of course they have a very good generation now, playing very well, not only in the national team but also with Arsenal.

“We are happy that Saka and Aaron are not playing tomorrow. We are doing very well at the moment. There are still nine games left to play. We have to see what happens in these next games and then you can ask me again how good the season was.”

Charitable donation from West Ham

West Ham have donated to nine animal welfare charities following the club’s fine for Kurt Zouma for kicking his cat. France defender Zouma faced a public outcry and was later charged by the RSPCA after footage emerged last month of him kicking and slapping the cat.

Zouma’s two cats were confiscated by the RSPCA while West Ham fined the 27-year-old up to two weeks’ wages, believed to be around £250,000. Zouma and the club also lost sponsorship deals following the horrifying incident, while the player has been mocked by opposition fans ever since.

But the Hammers have now confirmed that “significant payments” have been made to nine animal charities at home and abroad. The club said: “West Ham United are pleased to confirm that financial donations have been made to a number of animal welfare charities following the club fine imposed on Kurt Zouma. A total of nine Organisations, supporting animal care and welfare both in the UK and overseas, have been identified to receive significant payments which will go towards supporting the fantastic work they do.”
